Some disagree with the United Methodist Church’s stance; they think the UMC is wrong, and they do not stay and support it. These respondents have decided the UMC isn’t right for them, and they have left the denomination. But despite having left the denomination, many say they still love the UMC and that they may return at some point in the future, IF the denomination changes its stance and behaviors. Nevertheless, they still care about the UMC.
I am a former Methodist, having left the church because of its position on homosexuality. I suppose it is because I was brought up in the Methodist Church that I am still interested in it and hope that it will someday become enlightened in this matter.... Although leaving the church was a difficult decision I feel that I did the right thing. Otherwise I would hate myself.
When I lived in California I belonged to a Reconciling Congregation [RC]. I went to church weekly and was a very active member of the congregation. I now live [on the east coast] and there is no local RC church. I go to church roughly a half dozen times a year and am no longer a member of any congregation.
Sad to say, I have recently left the United Methodist Church. I found the lack of movement toward inclusion of gays/lesbians to be unacceptable and began to interfere with my joy of worship. I have joined [another denomination].
I've never felt better since getting out of active involvement in the United Methodist Church and into active involvement in MCC. My physical, mental and emotional health -- to say nothing of spiritual -- has improved greatly since I no longer have to debate that which is no longer debatable to me.
I am in the process of transferring to a Friends Meeting (made possible by a geographic move).
