SURVEY FOR LAY AND CLERGY Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered United Methodists

Survey by Dr. Jamie B. Stroud
Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality

This research provided the foundation of a dissertation which was submitted as part of fulfillment of requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

General information: The focus of this survey is to explore the reasons gay, lesbian, and bisexual United Methodists remain loyal to and/or affiliated with the United Methodist Church, given that the denomination's Social Principles assert that homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching and that GLBT individuals are not accorded full participation in the life of the denomination.

I want to reach as many GLBT United Methodists as possible. Because there is no known list of such persons (for obvious reasons), I need your help in finding survey participants. If you know persons who might be interested in participating, please let them know about it. Please share the web site information or copy the questionnaire and pass it on. I will send you paper copies if you request them (see address below). The survey can be completed on line and emailed according to the instructions here, or it can be printed out and sent to the address below by regular mail. I will appreciate any help you can give me.

About the survey:

NOTE: All individual information submitted on this survey will be held in confidence. I will be the only person with access to the data base. Steps have been taken to protect the data base, and additional security measures have been taken to protect any possible identifying information and to prevent unauthorized access.
